Lionesses promise to double efforts

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon have promised not to relent their efforts in keeping the country’s flag high as they set to prepare for the forthcoming World and Nations Cup competitions to take place in Canada and Cameroon, 2015 & 2016 respectively.

The promise was made in Yaounde, October 29 during a ceremony organized to receive them by Cameroonian authorities.

Speaking on behalf of her team mates, defender Manie Christine thanked the authorities for the reception and promised that they were going to be more devoted in their pursuit for excellence.

Addressing the gathering, the President of the FECAFOOT Normalisation Committee, Prof. Joseph Owona noted that the journey has just begun. “ I remember sending them a note in Namibia which urged them to uphold the fighting spirit and the Country’s colours, and that they have done. They fought like Lionesses. The journey began with the Namibia outing and now they would have to continue”.

Stressing that they should continue with the spirit they have built, Owona likened the Lionesses to the 1990 squad. Tapping from a local anecdote, he said in the forest the Lions don’t hunt, it is the Lionesses, and urged them to hunt to the fullest in the Canadian expedition.

“At the end you would have to come back to Cameroon for the 2016 African games. It is my fervent hope that it would not be a sad experience”, he added. He took the opportunity to reassure them that as far as the Federation is concerned, they would do what she would have to do, and promised them a special bonus.

The federation disbursed circa CFA 20million special bonus for the team.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Women Empowerment, and a petroleum company encouraged the Lionesses with FCFA 5,4 million and 12million respectively.
