The 3-0 bashing of Cameroon’s national football team by the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Belgium on Sunday October 11, 2015, has been described as an unusual reception for Cameroon’ Isa Hayatou as he takes over office as interim president of world football governing body, FIFA.
Just like Cameroon ran through media organs for the appointment of Isa Hayatou by the Ethics committee of the football body, so did the name Cameroon go through these media after the 3-0 defeat.
While many were trying to console themselves with the fact that Isa comes from the great football nation of Milla Roger and Samuel Etoo, the defeat caused debates to change. The question now is “how can a FIFA president be from such an under-performing football country.
Hope this does not become a sign of bad luck for the Cameroonian as he takes over the helm of the over 239 member association. With 90 days at his disposal with no major event to handle, Isa Hayatou will only benefit from the huge allowances allocated to the FIFA president with no serious official function known for now.
Though he too has hitherto been linked to many scandals, Isa says he will not be running for the office that has automatically become too unfriendly to everyone with “dirty football hands.”
