Cyclists numbering 150 will partake in the first edition of competition. First-ever cycling competition to be organised by the Littoral Regional League of the Cameroon Cycling Federation will kick off in the Region on July 19.
Codenamed the Grand Prize Cycling Tour of the Littoral, the eight-day competition is purposed to spur more young people to participate in the games and to boost their participation in national and international competitions.
During a preparatory meeting of the regional committee organising the competition at the Conference Hall of the Governor's Office in Douala Tuesday, July 2, 2013, Ludovic Ngwba, Secretary General at the Littoral Governor's Office, called for concerted efforts towards a successful organisation. Security forces were told to fine-tune measures and strategies to offer the best of services even in remote areas where the cyclists will visit. Other issues discussed include how to render ambulance and medical services, how to cater and lodge participants and how to optimise the tourism aspect of the game.
Emmanuel Guidio, Regional for Sports and Physical Education, with the collaboration of the Cameroon Cycling Federation will come up with a detailed timetable indicating all starting point and time. According to Emile Abella a Moubep, Regional League President, the cyclists will start in Pouma in the Sanaga Maritime Division on July 19, and end in Douala I Subdivision on July 27. The caravan will go to Edea, from Edea to Douala III, Douala III to Yabassi, Yabassi to Loum, Loum to Melon, Melon to Nkongsamba, Nkongsamba to Mbanga, and Mbanga to Douala I.
