MANCHESTER UNITED will look to sign former Arsenal star and Tottenham target Alex Song from Barcelona if they fail to land Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Red Devils are hopeful of completing a £40million move for the Chilean enforced before the start of the Premier League season, despite Louis Van Gaal's concerns over Vidal's injured knee.

As revealed by Express Sport earlier today, Juventus have told United they have just a week to complete a move for the 27-year-old or else risk missing out entirely.

The Old Trafford hierarchy are understood to be finalising their lucrative offer after handing Vidal a five-year-deal worth £182,000-per-week, but according to reports in Italy, Van Gaal has already earmarked Song if Vidal's knee scuppers his chance of a transfer.

The Cameroon international left the Gunners in 2012 for £15million but has failed to make his mark during his two years at the Nou Camp.
