Massive Turn-Out for Y'de Sports March

There was a popular turn-out at the sports march on Saturday, December 28, organized by the Centre Regional League of the Sports for All federation as over 5000 people drawn from every walk of life, took part in the event. The march organised to mark the end of the season in the Centre Region saw participants cover a total distance of 28 kilometres within the capital city. The departure and arrival was at the Yaounde Parcours Vita complex, passing through some of the major quarters of the city such as Bastos, Melen, Nkol-Bikok, Madagascar and Nkomkana. There were two stops, at the 20th May Boulevard and at the esplanade of the senior divisional Office at Tsinga before the final stop at the Parcours Vita.

The arrival took the airs of a popular feast as there was wining and dining with conviviality to the tune of some old sentimental music produced life by an orchestra of mostly old people. "I am very satisfied because I completed the march and this has enabled me to cut off some fat," said the Regional Delegate for Sports and Physical Education, Nanga Lucien alias Tarantini. He invited others to join them saying sports contributes to one's physical and mental health.

Quizzed on why the activity was coming up after the official close of the sports season with the football cup of Cameroon under the patronage of the President of the republic, the president of the centre regional League of Sports for All federation, Ndongo Seraphine epouse Essengue, said it was designed in purpose to enable people relax after heavy eating and drinking during the feast of nativity. Ndongo Seraphine announced that the opening of the new season in the Centre Regional League will take place one week after the Mount Cameroon Race, from February 20th to 23rd with the ascension of Mount Cameroon which is not going to be competitive. She appealed for sponsors as well as invited the public to join their sports movement.
