A new bonus system has been introduced to the national team with the suppression of participation fees.
“Participation fees have been suppressed to avoid injustice, bring serenity and solidarity among the players”, Cameroon Coach Volker Finke has told a press conference in Yaoundé.
“Players who were called six times to the qualifier matches would get FCFA 30million”, Finke said.
“We talked with the players and agreed on this new system of payment.”
Consequently, a player can calculate how many of the six qualifiers matches he played to arrive at his qualification fees. Finke however refused to comment on the other bonuses.
But, for a match won, the Lions would receive FCFA 5million for each of the group stage games and the fee would increase to about FCFA 25million if they grab the trophy.
The authorities negotiated early to avoid bonus scandals that have been part of the team lately.
The Lions went on strike and refused to travel in time to Brazil for the World Cup for unpaid bonuses.
Government had provided FCFA 50million while the players insisted on getting the quota of the Federation.
A presidential decree restructuring the national team after the 2014 World Cup debacle provides that the fees are agreed six months to the competition.
The team is in camp ahead of the friendly against DR Congo on January 7 at the Amadou Ahidjo Stadium.
Stephane Mbia is expected today in Yaoundé though would be operational only after 15 days following his injury in club.
He is however rolled out of the first game against Mali awarded a red card during the last qualifier game against Ivory Coast.
