The new national football squad with midfielder Stephane Mbia as Captain has given Cameroonians reasons to hope after they thrash the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-0 in their first outing counting for the 2015 African Nations Cup qualifiers in Moroco.
Lyon’s striker N’Jie Clinton netted the first goal for Cameroon during the first half the game while FC Porto’s new recruit ABOUBAKAR Vincent doubled scores towards the end of the clash. With three points gained in this first outing, the Indomitable Lions are expected back in Yaounde late Saturday.
Cameroon’s new squad is composed of three categories of players with the first composing experienced players in the likes of Stephane Mbia, Enoh Eyong, Nicolas Nkoulou, among others. The second group is composed of players Finke says he has given a second chance with examples like Georges Mandjeck and Léony Kweukeu while the third group is that of new players, that is to say young people.
Commenting on his new team few weeks ago, German-born Coach Volker Finke stated that: “I do not want to change everything but I think the team must show a different face. That's why I work for the rejuvenation of the team. The team has lost that (winning) spirit that you saw against Germany, against Libya and in the second game against Tunisia (in qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup)".
Apparently, that winning spirit is coming back. Cameroon takes on the Elephants of Ivory Coast on Wednesday September 10 at the Amadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde.
