Ngonsu Jacques elected president of Fecarugby

There was a storm at the helm of the rugby federation over the weekend as the incumbent president Likale Jean Daniel was evicted and replaced by his first vice, Ngonsu Jacques during an extraordinary general assembly that took place at the conference hall of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education on Saturday.

The general assembly was convened by a majority of members who were disgruntled with the management style of Likale Jean Daniel.

The former president was accused of non-transparent management, pitting members against one another, refuses to disclose the account number of the federation and siphon equipment meant for the federation to his own coffers.

He is also accused of refusing to convene a general assembly to complete the membership of the executive and board of directors and singlehandedly appointing people to key positions in the federation.

After the director of norms and monitoring of sports federations failed to settle the matter between the warring parties, the disgruntled members blocked the account of the federation and sued both Likale and the bank involved.

He is suspected to have siphoned two thousand dollars received from the International Rugby Union and selling balls offered by the French league during a visit to France.

The new president is therefore promising more transparency in management and working as a team with the other executive members. Owing to his background as an international trainer, Ngonsu Jacques emphasised that during his tenure of office he will promote rugby by taking the sport to schools and the military.

He said that since it is difficult to run a rugby club with 15 players, they will be experimenting the playing of rugby with seven players which is an Olympic discipline.

He however said emphasis will also be placed on rugby with fifteen players which has earned Cameroon a reputation on the continent.
