Nigeria Sinks Rwanda, Cameroon Held

Nigeria boosted their chances of qualifying for the 9th African Women's Championship Namibia 2014 after thumping Rwanda 4-1 in Rubavu on Saturday.

The six-time African champions dominated their hosts despite the absence of some key players for the first leg clash of the final round of the qualifiers.

The Super Falcons led 2-0 at half time thanks to a brace from Azizat Oshoala, scoring on 34 minutes and five minutes later.

Four minutes into the second half, Esther Sunday increased the tally for the Nigerians before Clementine Mukamana pulled one back for the She-Amavubu minutes later.

On 71 minutes, forward Desire Oparanozie netted the fourth goal for the Nigerians to complete the rout.

Elsewhere in Dakar, Senegal held Cameroon to a 1-1 draw to set up an open contest in the return leg. Nchout Njoya scored for Cameroon on 58 minutes whilst Sakhla Sylla equalized for the homers on 76 minutes.

In other games on Friday, African champions, Equatorial Guinea were held one-all by Cote d'Ivoire, Algeria beat Tunisia 2-1 whilst South Africa walloped Comoros 13-0 in Mistamiouli.

The return leg will take place on the weekend of 6-8 June 2014 with seven teams emerging to join hosts Namibia for the final tournament from 11-24 October, also a qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada next year.
