The remains of the late Cameroonian midfielder, Patrick Claude Ekeng Ekeng who played for Dinamo Bucharest arrives Cameroon to be laid in its final resting place this weekend.

Former Canon player died on May 6 during the Romanian Championship league game from a suspected heart attack after collapsing at the 70th minute.

Following the information gleaned from the family and the Sports Ministry, a state wake keep would take place immediately the corpse is brought to Cameroon followed by burial immediately.

The federation after visiting the family promised to assist in the burial of Ekeng and Jean Christelle Djomnang whose corpse arrived from Ebolowa on Monday night and was transferred to her hometown in Melong in the western region of Cameroon.

Meanwhile, the Cameroon football family in mourning wears black armband in all league games and homage is paid to the two players in a space reserved at the federation for two weeks.

“It is important that the Federation plays its role in taking care of not only the family but also the fans. We are as a family has lost a brother, a daughter, and son and sister, and we have the duty to ensure that their memories are celebrated”, the Federation’s Communication Director, Laurence Fotso, told Lions4life.

After a meeting with the Djomnangs, the federation officials visited the Ekengs. “What was important was to tell them the right words, psychological support, financial assistance and a commemorative space for family, fans and relatives and friends to pay tribute,” she added.

A wake keep is being organized at Cameroon Football Federation, Fecafoot today Thursday from 6:00pm.

Dinamo Bucharest has promised to bring the Romanian league trophy to Cameroon to be placed on Ekeng’s grave.

“If we win the final, the trophy will be sent to Cameroon, where it will be placed on Patrick’s grave,” said sporting director Ionel Danciulescu. Danciulescu told Romanian TV channel Digi Sport that Dinamo would ask Cluj to do the same if they win.
