Following two opening victories against DR Congo and Côte d’Ivoire in their Group D campaign of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 qualifiers, Cameroon were held to a goalless draw by Sierra Leone in Yaoundé on Saturday.
However, defender Stéphane Mbia remains calm over the situation and insists that they need time to bring themselves back to their former glory.
“We have been talking about reconstruction, and that takes time. We must take it one game at a time. We knew it would be a tough match. We faced a very good side that had caused Côte d’Ivoire a lot of problems,” the Lions’ skipper said at the post-match press conference.
National coach Volker Finke was disappointed with their first-half display, and hopes Cameroon will pull off a better result when the two sides meet again at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Wednesday.
“Against Côte d’Ivoire, we were not favourites with all the big Ivoirian names, but today we were the favourites. However, we struggled to get our game going in the first half,” the German said.
“They have three or four players very aggressive and technical. We created some chances in the second half, but didn’t manage to score. We need to do better on Wednesday.”
The Indomitable Lions remain top of their Group D on 7 points, followed by Côte d’Ivoire (6), DR Congo (3) and Sierra Leone (1)
