FUFA president Moses Magogo has outlined the introduction of the U-17 league as one of his main objectives in breaking the Africa Cup of Nations deadlock.

Magogo, who announced the Cameroon 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals as his main target of qualification soon after the Uganda Cranes fell out of the campaign last year, reiterated his position.

Addressing his first press conference of the year at FUFA House, Magogo said the under-age league will be a basis of building Ugandan football.

To work towards that end, Magogo promised that FUFA will set up schools of excellence for football in all regions of the country.

Magogo also promised to make changes in the senior national team set up. “Definitely we shall make changes. There is going to be movement of personnel especially those around the national teams,” Magogo said.

The FUFA boss also pledged to return the FUFA awards at the end of the season. Earlier, the president had outlined challenges as well as achievements for last year.

Lack of funding and inadequate human resource were among the challenges. Magogo however, promised a turn-around on the financial front saying that the federation is re-negotiating all sponsorship contracts.

“We are entering into a commercial world. This time we are going to be more aggressive,” he said.

Magogo was, however, non-committal on the SuperSport and Azam Uganda Premier League sponsorship saga.

“I don’t have a position to communicate at the moment. There are so many meetings going on. We shall let you know at the right time,” he told the media.

Magogo also pledged to continue with his policy of improving relationships with all stakeholders.

“Our policy is that football is for everybody. This has made it possible to register these achievements,” he said.
