“Remaining disciplinary cases relating to incidents that took place during the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, it has been decided on by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and duly communicated to the relevant parties that some players will be held back off the pitch for some time,” FIFA stated on their official site this week.

The international body have thus confirmed the players having match suspensions carried over from the tournament in Brazil.

They include Cameroon’s midfielder Alexandre Song, who was sent off in a Group A encounter against Croatia for elbowing Mario Mandzukic.

It was confirmed that Song has two matches remaining from the three-match suspension imposed, as he served the first match when the Indomitable Lions faced Brazil in their last Group stage game.

The Barcelona midfielder is therefore ineligible to compete with Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2015 first round of qualifiers in Group D, away against the Leopards of DR Congo on 5-6 September and in Yaoundé against Côte d’Ivoire on 10 September.
