Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been on his best behavior when it comes to personal fouls this year, but a rough hit Sunday against Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown could draw the ire of the league.
Suh, who had 10 personal fouls in his first two NFL seasons, drew his second 15-yard penalty of 2014 late in the first half, when he hit McCown with a forearm to the facemask area.
"When you take a look at it, you can see where his initial contact is made and then, from there, obviously, the hand kind of slid up a little bit, or the forearm slid up," Lions coach Jim Caldwell said today.
"And it'll be for the league to make a determination on it, because he had two that were almost identical: one on one side of the field and one on the other. One was not flagged, but the league will take a look at it and see what they think."
Caldwell said that the Lions submit questionable penalty calls to the league for review, but he did not say whether that infraction was one that the team turned in this week.
The NFL reviews all potential violations of player safety on Mondays and notifies players of fines later in the week.
Suh has been fined eight times in his career (for more than $216,000) and suspended once. After incurring three fines last year, he has yet to be fined this fall.
On Sunday, Suh walked over to McCown to shake hands during a stop in play after the penalty. Asked whether he expected to hear from the league for the hit, Suh, who had three tackles for loss and a sack against the Bucs, said, "No clue."
