Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of a deal to sign Clinton Njie, Lyon’s club president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed.

The Daily Telegraph reported on 12 August that the Premier League club have had an offer of an initial £10m ($15.6m), with another £2m to follow in add ons, accepted by the Ligue 1 side.

The report adds the Cameroon international will travel to London to undergo a medical with the club.

And speaking to RMC Sport, Aulas has confirmed positive talks with Spurs, praising chairman Daniel Levy for his role in the negotiations.

“Tottenham absolutely want N’Njie, we are close to an agreement. Thank Daniel Levy for making a consistent offer,” Aulas said.

Njie was not a regular starter in his inaugural first team season at Lyon, but still managed to score eight goals for the club.

Tottenham have already made three signings this summer, strengthening their defensive options with Toby Alderweireld, Kevin Wimmer and Kieran Trippier. But manager Mauricio Pochettino may have to bulk up at the other end of the pitch, with much of the goalscoring responsibility set to be fall on Harry Kane’s shoulders again.

While Spurs have also been linked with West Brom striker Saido Berahino and Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Njie emerged as a possible target in late July.

L’Equipe initially reported Tottenham had made an opening proposal of £7.5m for the 21 year old, an offer which was promptly turned down by the Ligue 1 side.

Speaking to Le Parisien, Aulas later explained the club had not accepted any offers for the striker because they were not in a position where they have to sell. He did however leave the door open for an improved offer that could tempt them into doing business.

“We do not need money,” he told the print edition of the newspaper on 2 August, as reported by Foot Mercato. “We will see what he attracts first and then we will see.”

It would now appear Tottenham’s improved offer has met Lyon’s valuation for the player.
