Fabrice Ondoa, the 19 year old Barcelona and Cameroon goalkeeper feels that they did not really fail in this Africa Cup of Nations.

Cameroon exited during the group stages at Equatorial Guinea 2015.

Ondoa insisted that they did well enough to even get to the actual competition because they are young team that is still growing and therefore they must be positive.

“It is not really a big failure. If you look at our qualifying campaign, it may look like a big failure, but not if you have a look at our recent past at the competition. Our team is busy rebuilding,” said Ondoa.

He said the fact that they were competitive in the three matches they played which include two one all draws against Mali and Guinea and their loss against Côte d’Ivoire, gives them hope.

“To reach this level of competition and play at the level we played during those three games is already something good. We must be positive,” he said.

Speaking about the future of the current coach Volker Finke, the young goalkeeper said he has asked the Cameroon Federation to not release the coach.

“I ask the Cameroonian Federation to keep Volker Finke. He doesn’t just act like a coach but also like a father. He managed to rejuvenate the group and bring some discipline back. And he knows what to do for the future competitions.

“When someone starts this kind of work, he mustn’t be stopped. It is thank to the World Cup failure that he could succeed in the qualifiers. He is a man who doesn’t repeat the same mistakes,” he said.
