West Ham eye Cameroon-born defender Umtiti

West Ham United are the favourites to sign Olympique Lyon’s Cameroon-born centre-back Samuel Umtiti, according to Sky Sports.

The Yaoundé-born 22-year-old has been a regular for the French Ligue 1 side for the past four seasons and is regarded as one of the best young defensive talents in Europe.

Should the Hammers manage to land Umtiti, it would represent a major coup for the Premier League side, as the player has also been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona.

Umtiti may be African by birth, but he has represented France’s junior teams through his international career and was recently included in Les Bleus’ Euro 2016 squad as a replacement for the injured Jeremy Mathieu.
