Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure blamed his team for a nervy game against Cameroon that saw the Ivorians beaten 4-1 at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde on Wednesday in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group stage.

“We all have ourselves to blame for the debacle. We all share the responsibility for this awful defeat,” Toure said.

“It was a difficult match and we tried to control matters early into the clash but it flopped. In second have, we had many opportunities to put the encounter to bed but we failed and so we have to blame ourselves.

“I think it appears to be a good thing to lose now and reorganise ourselves ahead of the upcoming games, mostly the home clash against the Leopards of DR Congo. When you lose early in such a campaign it helps to get yourself cool-headed and prepare for the next hostilities,” the Manchester City midfielder said.

Gervinho and Wilfried Bony missed a rash of chances to alter the scoreline in their favour, with Yaya Toure scoring the Ivorians’ lone goal in the 4-1 drubbing that came through Cameroon duo Vincent Aboubabkar and Clinton Njie, who both scored a brace each.

“It is not over yet. Our initial objective is to qualify to the finals in Morocco and this has not changed. Our team is undergoing a reconstruction and we all know this might take a longer time than expected.”
