Granada full-back Allan Nyom explained his help towards the club signing Cameroon international colleague, Dany Nounkeu, whilst expecting a tough encounter with Villarreal at home this weekend.
Following the morning session at their Armilla base on Tuesday, right-back Allan Nyom explained that work during the international break in fixtures, “has been positive and will give us plenty of strength for La Liga.”
He also gave his thoughts about Granada’s opponents this Sunday, as the team prepares to take on Villarreal at Nuevo Los Cármenes.
“They’re very good opponents. They have good players and play their football well. Offensively they’re strong and defensively too.”
One player Nyom won’t have to worry about marking is Giovani Dos Santos, who was injured on international duty with Mexico. The 26-year-old warned that Villarreal have other attacking options available to them.
“Giovani? Those who do play will be keen to do well and maybe that’s just as dangerous.”
Granada signed fellow Cameroon international Dany Nounkeu ahead of the transfer window closing, so Nyom was asked about his role in luring the player from Galatasaray.
“He knew about the interest from Granada and I called him to speak about what the city is like, things about the team. In this regard I just wanted to help Juan Carlos Cordero (sporting director). Dany is strong, determined and competitive. He’s a very good player, he’s come from a big club and will bring us his experience.”
Finally and discussing his experiences at the World Cup this summer, aware that some Cameroon players were accused of rigging results, Nyom denied that was the case.
“I got to play one game against Brazil, which was a great experience because of the atmosphere. Match fixing? I didn’t see any of that, or anything untoward with any of my team-mates. They gave everything in games, but we just weren’t good enough.”
