Carlos Kameni has revealed he snubbed a switch to Watford — because his family did not fancy the move.

The Hornets tried to bring the Malaga keeper to Vicarage Road during the winter transfer window.

But the Cameroon international, 31, turned a big-money move to stay on the Costa Del Sol.

And, after putting pen to paper on a new four-year deal with the Spanish side, Kameni revealed he was always going to put family first.

Speak in a press conference on Thursday, Kameni revealed: “I could have earned a lot more in another country. But there would have been a lot of sad faces in my home.

“I am not staying here for the money. My family’s happiness is the important thing.”

Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores is a huge fan of the player from his time in La Liga, coaching Valencia, Atetico Madrid and Getafe.

And he was desperate to snap Kameni up by triggering a clause in his contract that would have allowed the La Liga stalwart to leave for around £800,000.

But the former Espanyol star confirmed Watford never stood a chance.

He added: “I will be honest. I had an offer from Watford.

“But even when I was not playing, I have always happy here.

“It has never occurred to me to leave Malaga.”
