On her part, the Regional Delegate of Arts and Culture for the North West, Mrs Lukong Ernestine Tomla, said it was high time the population of the region consumed local music since it is original. She called on the population to avoid buying pirated CDs and help the North West artistes in promoting culture through music.

Initiated in France some 32 years ago, she said the World Music Day is celebrated to promote the culture of music. Under the theme "Voice", this year's festival of music will permit artistes to perform live on the streets free of charge, and all-night long without any restriction of noise by inhabitants. Music is said to be food to the soul, so let the music play on.
