FirstBank Basketball Club are through to the semi-final stage of the 2015 FIBA- Africa Champions Cup for Women holding in Luanda, Angola after beating INJS Basketball club of Cameroon 59-43 in the quarter-final game played on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Nigerian girls began the first quarter with 14-8 points lead while going through a difficult challenge in the hands of the Cameroonians to win the second quarter with 13-11 points as the first half ended 27-19 in favour of the Elephant Girls. The third quarter was more difficult for the bankers who narrowly lost 14-15 points to the opponents before they bounced back to win the fourth quarter with 18-9 points to end the game with 59-43 points.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s other representatives in the tournament, Dolphins, were not as lucky in their game as they lost 74-79 points to Ferroviário de Maputo, Mozambique in their quarter-final match.
The result meant Dolphins are out of contention for the title but will now play in the classification to know their ranking in the club tournament.
Dolphins made only one bench point while Ferroviário combined for 38 of their 79 points.
Dolphins' Nene Patience Okpe finished with game-high 28points but that was not enough to prevent them from a heartbreaking five points loss.
