Basketball analysts, coaches end training in Buea

The South West Region of Cameroon has witnessed the first ever basketball training seminar for young coaches and analysts in Buea at the catholic university that lasted for ten days with the participants determined to love the game and promote it.

From Monday September 1 to Wednesday 10, some 120 young coaches and analysts all over Cameroon were present to participate in this Seminar including journalists, some secondary and primary school teachers from the South West Regional delegation of secondary and basic education.

The Governor of the South West Region, H.E Bernard Okaila thanked the organizers during the opening ceremony of this seminar for making south west the host of such a great event.

The Governor also called on the population of south west to not let this opportunity pass them by.

The youth especially, he said, should take basketball more seriously in their day to day lives now that more than 100 coaches are about to be trained in this seminar.

At the seminar so many skills were highlighted, some of which are, the role of basketball, Coaches Strategies, games rules and refereeing among others. The young coaches also learned various symbols of basketball.

The first three days of the seminar concentrated on the evaluation of the trainees, symbols and fundamental terminology, the role of the game in the development of young players, organisation of training sessions, and collective basics of the game set, mini basketball and analysis of techniques amongst others.

The rest of the days saw the practical presentations of trainers, games rules and refereeing, trainee’s preoccupation out of the training session programme, the place of Africa basketball in the world amongst others.

The last day was dedicated to the closing ceremony were participants were evaluated on the basis of the work covered during the training as well as corrections and comments made.

It should equally be noted that the seminar had as sponsors, the Regional Delegation of Basic Education, the Regional Delegation of Secondary Education, the Regional Delegation of Sports and Physical Education, Hotel Seme Beach.

In a nutshell, the international expert of this seminar, Cameroonian born, Bouwe Gilles, used his many years of experience to drill the young coaches, asking them to be good coaches of basketball, saying that they must be self-disciplined, stay positive, must have at least two main objectives in a training session or a game and give other responsibilities to their assistance etc.

Bouwe Gilles did not relent his efforts despite the heavy down pour of rain in most of the days.

He took the coaches to the basketball court for demonstration on different kinds of shots, positioning and attacks.

Speaking to the SUN at the end of the training, Ngu Achefor, one of the four CAMASEJ Members sponsored by Hotel Seme Beach throughout the training thanked the General Manager of Seme Beach Hotel, Anoko Yann for developing an interest in Journalists in Limbe and the association as a whole.

Ngu Achefor wished the management of Seme Beach continues to invest in the population in various areas apart from sports.

The workshop was also facilitated by Mr. Mbella Ifosi Emile, president of the South West Basketball Coaches.

His expertise was also enjoyed and appreciated by the participants throughout the workshop especially during practical presentations at the basketball court.

Ifosi Emile Mbella advice the young coaches to start training children in primary schools so they can make up their own basketball teams, further more he promise to give his ideas and advice at anytime he is called upon any difficulties.
