Earlier in the week, there were reports that Joel Embiid was making strong progress with his rehab, and that his work in practice was impressive to many people in the organization, creating some hype about the team possibly playing their top pick in this year’s summer league.

But not so fast!

Embiid is not considered a lock to appear in any games this summer.

Head coach Brett Brown said that Embiid has indeed been making good progress, but ultimately may not be ready to perform by the time summer league arrives.

To this point, Embiid has only been working in two-on-two practices. The next step would be to graduate to three-on-three work, and then the head coach may consider playing him.

The Sixers are being cautious with their top pick, and that’s understandable.

They want to make sure Embiid is truly 100% before they roll him out for game action, which is why they’re noncommittal about him participating in the summer league.

However, given the progress that he’s been making to this point, it would be shocking to me if Embiid didn’t see the court over the summer.
