10b FCFA World Bank loan sought to finance health sector

The Head of State of Cameroon, Paul Biya, has signed on September 22, a decree empowering the Minister of Economy, Emmanuel Djoumessi Nganou to sign with the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group a loan agreement of about 10 billion CFA francs (20 million dollars).

According to the presidential decree, these funds, are intended to add "additional financing to support investments in the health sector project" in Cameroon.

According to the description made by the World Bank, "the Investment Project in support of the health sector in Cameroon aims to improve the health quality, with a particular focus on maternal and child health and communicable diseases.”

The project, has two components, the first of which "relates to the provision of services at the health district level", while "Component 2 focuses on institutional strengthening.

It includes technical and financial support to strengthen the two major normative functions of the Ministry of Health at the national, regional and district levels. "
