The Cameroonian Minister for Transport, Robert Nkili, has made an announcement indicating that he has authorized two companies created under the Cameroonian law, Fako Transport and Shipping Company Ltd (Fakoship) and Gulf of Guinea Investment Shipping and Trading Corporation (Gulfin), "for the activities of towing services (assistance in the mooring of vessels on the waterfront) in all maritime, fluvial ports and landing stages of the Republic of Cameroon".

Also, Minister Nkili invited officials of these two companies to get closer to "port self-regulatory bodies for the continuation of the grant or transfer procedure", in so far as, he noted that, "the exercise of these activities and the operation of these approvals must take place after authorisation of the competent autonomous port authority.

These two new authorisations officially introduce competition in towing and mooring activities in the Cameroon ports. Because, before Fakoship and Gulfin, which is already highly visible in the distribution of petroleum products sector, the sole authorized operator was the Spanish company Boluda.
