Members of the Fraud Control and Repression Division from the departmental delegation of the Ministry of Commerce in the Mfoundi, have just seized 435 domestic gas cylinders in a family concession in the Kondengui neighbourhood, in the Cameroonian capital.
This cargo, we officially learned, was at the centre of a traffic, which consisted in siphoning a domestic gas cylinder of the Gamgaz brand, to transfer its content to two or three cylinders of the SCTM brand.
This is the brand of the leader in the local market, whose product has been much sought after for months, due to dysfunctions in the distribution network.
This is the 2nd domestic gas siphoning unit dismantled in the Cameroonian capital in less than a month. Indeed, this past 21 September, the same team had already caught Fidèle Fonkou, whose gas store was turned into a siphoning centre under the cover of night.
In addition to incurring financial losses for housewives, who often pay FCfa 6,500 per full domestic gas cylinder of 12.5 kg, siphoning is a dangerous activities for the neighbourhood and the operators themselves, due to the volatility.
