A ‘33 Export’ beer customer is seeking recognition from the brand’s brewers, Les Brasseries du Cameroun, for his faithfulness in consuming the liquor for close to 33years.
The ‘33 Export’ brand loyalist, whose only name we obtained as Abongwa, 49, recently told reporters in Mendakwe, a small village in the North West Region, that he began drinking the product at the of 17 and stayed clued to it because it “agrees” with his immune system.
His love for ’33 Export’, Abongwa said, is like a man falling in love with a beautiful woman, Yaounde-based weekly, The Horizon reported.
According to Abongwa, taking 18 bottles of ’33 Export, equivalent to 11.7litres with above 5% alcohol, would not make him drunk as his system is resistant to the liquor.
Paradoxically, the ’33 Export’-prone father of three is a driver. He says he encourages his children not to consume alcohol like him, as juveniles are fond of engaging in excessive boozing, even when the law proscribes them.
Abongwa explained that he wishes to receive an award from Les Brasseries du Cameroun in order to continue promoting the brand. Going by him, the brewery company has only recognized him with a T-shirt, cap and bottles of drink, a recognition he feels is meagre.
The ‘33 Export’-seeking consumer told reporters he doesn’t drink on a table containing a brand other than ‘33 Export’. He claims he is outstanding in beer consumption amongst some 22 million Cameroonians. Abongwa considers it a feat.
Though Abongwa didn’t declare the financial cost he has incurred so far, he insists the brewery company should decorate him with an award and give him a trophy.
In Cameroon, bars are allowed to operate haphazardly, and beer can be found in any nook and cranny, even where there is no portable drinking water.
