The public electricity service in Cameroon, AES Sonel, will propose to the Cameroonian government in the coming days, a project to produce 50 MW of power in Douala, thanks to gas supplied by “Gaz du Cameroun”, a subsidiary of Victoria Oil & Gas, British company that operates the gas field in Logbaba.

According to the new CEO of AES Sonel, Joel Nana Kontchou, this project will not only "face the delay in the commissioning of the extension of the Kribi gas Central (to get its production capacity from 216 to 330 MW), originally scheduled for 2015," but also " to start the rehabilitation of the Songloulou Central with 2 groups stop over a period of nearly six months."

Built on the Songloulou dam, the eponymous hydropower plant is one of the largest in the country.

On a production capacity of 385 MW, this infrastructure built in 1976 provides power to the entire southern part of Cameroon, with the exception of the 3 northern regions, which are supplied with electricity from the Lagdo dam.
