Started in 2010 by Hilary Clinton, then US Secretary of State, the African Women Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP) was officially launched on 9 December 2014 in Cameroon, during a ceremony organized in Yaoundé, the capital of the country.
Chaired by Caroline Kendem, the Cameroon branch of the AWEP claimed to be coaching already "Cameroonian entrepreneurs, illustrating in agro-business, food processing, textiles, fashion, ICT, marketing".
Indeed, AWEP main objective is to strengthen the capacity of women entrepreneurs in Africa, so that 'the latter become the voices of change in their respective countries'.
Through this program supported by the U.S. State Department, each year, a promotion of African women entrepreneurs is selected by the USA Embassy in each country, and sent to the United States.
Today, underlined Caroline Sack Kendem, President of the Cameroon branch, "through technical support, AWEP accompanied the initiatives of over 200 award-winning women program, and thousands of women entrepreneurs from the mainland across three business centres in nearly 50 countries.
