Authorities given 2 months for change of Airport stamp duties

A press statement dated December 29, 2014 and published earlier this week in the press has announced an agreement between the IRS and air carriers to postpone by two months the effective date of the direct payment of the stamp duty of airport on passenger tickets.

The recovery of stamp duty of airport, through the Finance Act of 2015, will now be by airlines. A charge for them to repay the money recovered from taxes.

In practice, this will remove the step for payment of this duty by travelers at airports which makes the boarding procedures long.

Also, is the release mentioned above and signed by the Director-general of taxes, Mopa Modeste Fatoing, and the representative of carriers, Jean Paul Nana Sandjo, everyone was satisfied. "Airlines have welcomed the initiative of the authorities to facilitate and simplify the Organization of travel for passengers and businesses. This is an initiative that will result in substantial gains in time for all stakeholders", noted the document.

Nevertheless, he continued to explain the product of consultations between the actors who are implementing this tax reform, many "passenger of different airlines have already, in their vast majority, acquired on behalf of the months of January and February 2015, tickets at prices not including airport stamp duty.

Parties have therefore agreed on "a transitional period of two months during which the timbre of the Directorate General of tax authorities will continue to collect stamp duty at airports according to the current procedures".
