Bamenda employment fund targets 1,100 jobs

Human resource management and health for a more productive workplace was stressed ahead of 128th Labour Day.

The year 2014 may be less stressful for job seekers in the North West region with the National Employment Fund (NEF), on track with its mission to promote employment. It is perhaps, against this backdrop that the North West branch manager of NEF, Mbe Augustine S., announced the imminent insertion of some 1,100 jobseekers into paid employment in 2014 from a total 2,200 targeted for registration in the region.

Some 571 candidates will also feature for sponsorship into different professional training domains while FCFA 30 million will be spent to help finance 460 persons in independent employment projects.

The event was an enterprise seminar on human resource management and health for a more productive workforce in Bamenda during which Mbe Augustine revealed that the four-year old North West branch of NEF has received, registered, counseled and oriented 7,460 jobseekers with 3,786 of them gaining employment while 838 other individuals have benefited from NEF funding worth FCFA 106 million towards the creation of self-employment and group projects.

The enterprise seminar had NEF to thank for organisation with the Branch Manager, Mbe Augustine explaining that it was conceived to demonstrate that human resource management can generate better productivity.

Human resource management and health for a more productive work force was the theme of the seminar, coined to tie with the theme of the 2014 International Labour Day which inspires workers to fight HIV/AIDS at workplaces.

It was all about drilling participants on how to effectively implement human resource management in the context of the reality of the existence of HIV/AIDS. Participating economic operators and stakeholders were also sensitised on the importance of good health for the performance of employees in enterprises.
