Bowleven has started drilling on the Zingana exploration well on Bomono permit in Cameroon which marks the start of its two well exploration program.
Located 20km north-west of Douala, the well will be drilled to a depth of 2,000m, and will target Paleocene (Tertiary), aged three-way dip closed fault block.
The company said that the shallow wells drilled in the 1950s have partially penetrated the block.
Following completion of drilling and logging activity at Zingana, the rig will be moved to the second well, Moambe located over 2km east of Zingana.
Bowleven plans to carry out testing at the sites upon completion of drilling and logging at each site. It is currently working on technical and commercial work to identify development of concepts and product off-takers.
The company said it will provide further updates on drilling activities at a later date.
Bowleven operates Bomono and Etinde Permit in shallow waters offshore Cameroon through its wholly-owned subsidiary EurOil. The company also has interests in Kenya and Zambia.
