With 20,000 campaign producers now UTZ and Rainforest certified from the 2011-2012, Cameroon was able to produce 5,446 tonnes of certified cocoa in the 2013-2014 season, which just ended.

This production has more than doubled that of the previous season, then only 2,000 tonnes, according to statistics of the Interprofessional Council of cocoa and coffee (CICC).

The largest exporter of this type of cocoa, we learn, is the company Telcar Cocoa (3000 tonnes), the global merchant firm Cargill, which is conducting a program to promote the production of certified cocoa in the basins of Cameroon.

As such, on September 3, the exporter has granted 500 certified cocoa producers in the region of South West, an amount of more than 104 million CFA francs, equivalent to 50 CFA francs per kg of product certified cocoa.

To contribute to the production of the most profitable and popular cocoa on the international market, CICC expects to launch "in the 4th 2014 quarter, with the support of international partners and certifying organizations, a comprehensive public awareness campaign on the subject, and the first 2015 quarter, a support program for the certification will be implemented in areas where Interprofession led projects with producer organizations."
