At the end of the economic days in Cameroon, to which a delegation participated in Montréal, Canada, from 18 to 19 September 2014, the Cameroonian Government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian company named «Charbons de bois feuille d’Erable écologique de biomasse», which is planning to build a factory for the production of clean coal in Cameroon, in order to contribute to the reduction of the country's energy deficit.

"Cameroon intends to become a giant in hydropower in Africa and its potential in this area is enormous. "Solar and coal are also part of the solution for our country", said Energy Minister Basile Atangana Kouna, in taking stock of his Ministerial Department in this Canadian expedition.

As a reminder, Cameroon has the 2nd hydroelectric potential in Africa, behind the DR Congo. But the country claims barely 1,200 MW of installed capacity, which usually plunges many cities in the dark during the low flow period, marked by the decline of the water level in the main dams.

Both injurious response to populations that companies, major industrial corporations of the country gradually migrate to natural gas, thanks to the impact of the British company Rodeo development project, which operates the gas field of Logbaba-Ndogpassi, in the outskirts of Douala, the economic capital of the country.

A gas station was also commissioning in the country by 2013, in order to mitigate the nuisances for Cameroonian people, who gradually adopt solar energy thanks to the massive imports of lamps and solar panels coming mostly from China.
