COSUMAR's acquisition of Batouri complex in progress

Cosumar, the leading sugar brand on the Moroccan market, has not yet completed the acquisition of the sugar complex at Batouri in Cameroon. They have only began the process for tender issued by the State of Cameroon.

The leader of the market for sugar in Morocco, Cosumar, just won the tender launched by the State of Cameroon for the development of the project at the sugar complex of Batouri in Cameroon. The dossier submitted by Cosumar for the project to commence is however at the pre-qualification stage.

Contrary to the information published on the acquisition by the Moroccan operator on this project, Cosumar guarantee that the candidacy of purchase is still at the study phase and could lead to an eventual acquisition.

The call for tenders concerning the complex of Batouri was made on November 20, 2014.

According to estimates, if the purchase is completed with an investment of 60 billion CFA, Batouri complex will create about 17,000 jobs, with an annual production of 60,000 tonnes, with plantations of sugarcane covering 32,000 hectares.

The Cameroonian sugar market is dominated by the French group Somdiaa through its subsidiary sugar company of Cameroon (Sosucam).
