Cameroon and the Republic of South Africa are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation especially in the domains of education and agriculture. The information was made known in Yaounde yesterday, March 15, 2016 following talks between Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella and the South African High Commissioner to Cameroon, Zanele Makina.
Speaking to reporters after their meeting, the South African diplomat said their meeting provided them the opportunity to reflect on ways to reinforce collaboration between the two countries. Both officials evaluated what has been done and what could be done better. “It was a very good and challenging meeting. We isolated our own challenges and areas of cooperation and we have agreed that more work needs to be done to strengthen the relations further”, she pointed out.
“We are happy with the existing aspects of our collaboration but we want to push it and make it much more meaningful not only for our generation but also for the next generation to take seriously the collaboration between Cameroon and South Africa”, she added. As far as education is concerned, the High Commissioner said they have identified tertiary and vocation training sectors where both countries can share experiences.
Another important point she made was the area of agriculture where both countries can learn from each other. With the technology South Africa has, she believes that Cameroon and South Africa can expand their cooperation in the area of agricultural industries as well as agricultural training between Cameroonian and South African universities.
