With a capacity of 33,000 tonnes of cocoa grinding, Cameroon is the smallest transformer among the top five global producers of beans, recalled Jean Marc Anga, the Executive Director of the international organization of cocoa (ICCO), during Festicacao 2014.
Cameroon thus ranks far behind Côte d'Ivoire, world's leading producer of beans, which became also first world transformer at the end of 2014, with a capacity of crushing of 670 000 tonnes; or more than double the 300 000 tonnes that Cameroon aims to crush by 2020.
Ghana 2nd producer worldwide, has a current grinding capacity of 286,000 tonnes, more than the average production of Cameroon for the past five years (200,000 tonnes). With a capacity of 173,000 tonnes grinding, Nigeria also beat Cameroon cocoa processing.
