Cameroon robusta coffee exports at 8,087 T. by May 2014

Robusta coffee exports from Cameroon stood at 8,087 tonnes by the end of May 2014, compared with 8,406 tonnes in same month of the previous season, statistics from the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (NCCB) showed on Thursday.

The data indicated the central Africa country shipped 2,700 tonnes of robusta coffee in May, up slightly from 2,622 in April this year and 2,290 tonnes for the same month the previous season.

Cameroon is one of just a few African countries growing both arabica and robusta coffee. The robusta season runs from Dec. 1 to Nov. 30 and Arabica from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.

The data showed that 470 tonnes of arabica coffee was exported in May, an increase from 232 tonnes the previous month and 252 tonnes in the same month the previous season.

Total arabica exports since the start of the ongoing 2013/14 season stood at 883 tonnes, down from 1,199 tonnes the same period in the 2012/13 season.
