The historical operator of telecommunications, Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel), has signed a contract with the society Living Energy Cameroon, a company specializing in solar energy, for the equipment of 31 solar panels to be used in its telecom sites.

The gradual migration of Camtel to solar will also extend to the 800 telecom sites that account for the company status. According to the documents initialed by David Nkoto Emane, the director general of Camtel, and Kenneth Mungu, the director general of Living Energy Cameroon, the first phase of equipment installations of Camtel in solar equipment will be for a duration of six months.

The market is estimated at 1.987 billion FCFA (3.914 million). According to David Nkoto, the investment of Camtel in solar has for objective to reduce the expenses of the business in fossil energy.

In effect, to operate its equipment during the cuts of electrical energy, the company must often resort to Diesel.

However, in replacing this energy by the solar, free, renewable and bio, the financial burden of the operator will be eased. This reduction will have a long-term impact on the cost of telecommunications services.
