Fledgling Australian mining company, Canyon Resources Ltd, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bolloré Africa Logistics Cameroun SA and Camrail SA for a complete logistical assessment of the Douala port and railway network prior to starting production at the Birsok bauxite deposit in Cameroon.
Camrail and the Bolloré group, which respectively operate the railway and the port, will be “important partners” for Canyon in the project’s development and functioning.
The Birsok project covers 1,462 km2 in the Adamoua region in the country’s northern region and possesses a bauxite rich area of 3.5 km by 40 metres with an average thickness of 4 metres and aluminium oxide levels ranging between 40 and 45%.
