The Dangote cement, with expected production of 1.5 million tonnes of cement per year, promised its first bags for January 2015. This period was specified in CT 15 December, 2015.

According to the Director of the project, Baba Abduhalli, the factory is practically ready. "We already have the raw material: clinker, gypsum, as well as the pozzolan, which comes from Tombel", he noted. According the same source, the factory will launch early next week and we will "run tests", for a period of ten days.

The company said that its production could have started earlier had it not been for the congestion experienced by the port of Douala; this delayed the arrival of the equipment.

The project has however progressed with the occasional visit by Aliko Dangote. On November 27, last year, the Nigerian billionaire (first African fortune with 21.6 billion dollars, according to the latest Forbes rankings) came to "see how the work was progressing" on the site.

On the occasion of his passage in the Cameroonian land, he received a local representative at the Vip lounge of the international airport of Douala, Mouhamadou Yakoubou, 2nd Assistant to the Mayor of Douala II, and Chairman of youth association. In their interactions, they mentioned the issue of jobs. "We have expressed the wish to see many Cameroonian youth recruited to work with the company and Mr. Dangote has given instructions to its staff in this respect", said Mouhamadou Yakoubou to CT.
