At a meeting held in Yaounde on Wednesday, donors agreed to contribute 37 billion towards the construction of the last part of the Bingambo-Kribi road.

Technically, the construction of the Kribi deep sea port has been completed, thus urgent to finalize the "provincial" No. 18, connecting Yaoundé to this other harbour infrastructure.

With funding from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Yaounde-Kribi, long axis of 271 Km, has already started. But only 67 km, representing lot 1, Yaoundé-Olama, has been completed. Lot 2, Olama-Bingambo, 106 km was recently the subject of a loan agreement between the Government and IDB. It is anticipated that this project will start soon.

Finally, concerning lot 3, Bingambo-Kribi which is 98 km, the Government organized a round table meeting recently in Yaounde with the representatives of the Islamic world to mobilize funds towards the project.

To realize the last step estimated at 77 billion, the Minister of economy, planning and land use (Minepat), Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi and the Secretary of State at the Ministry of public works, Hans Nyetam Nyetam met donors from the Arab Bank for development in Africa (BADEA), the Saudi Fund for development (SFD), the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab economic development (KFAED), OPEC Fund for international development (OFID) and the African Development Bank (ADB) etc.

Consequently, the various parties noted that the realization of the last lot will be divided into two sections; a first section, 45 km, from Bingambo to Grand Zambi and the second section, 53 km between Grand Zambi and Kribi.

At the end of the discussion, Minepat asserted that, "the funding for the first section that will include seven bridges; one of which has been completed. Out of the overall cost of 43 billion CFA F for this first part, donors agreed to contribute 37 billion CFA F while the state add 6 billion CFA F". Construction is however expected to start in November 2015.
