Relatives, friends and well-wishers joined Staff Sergeant Cosmas Ngwayi Eddy’s family at Christ the King Catholic Church Nkambe, Donga-Mantung Division to fete his acquittal following a three-year-old bank robbery case.

Staff Sergeant Cosmas Ngwayi Eddy was one of the suspects in the ECO-Bank robbery in Douala some three years ago. The matter, that was before of the Military Tribunal in Douala is said to have suffered many adjournments because of very tight investigations. The Tribunal in Douala, last April 4, discharged and acquitted Eddy.

The family considered this as God’s special favour to them, and last Sunday, April 20, that coincided with Easter celebration, a day Christians believe Jesus Christ rose from the dead, made merry to thank Him. The Simon Shey Ayaba’s family, from which the Staff Sergeant hails, saw the acquittal as an indication that their son and brother who “died” had also risen with Christ.

In his homily, the Assistant Parish Priest, Rev. Father Emmanuel Giantar, said it was no coincidence that judgment was passed during the Lent period and the thanksgiving mass offered on Easter day. He said Eddy’s innocence over the ECO-Bank robbery was just like Christ’s innocence that led to his crucifixion.

“Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness in our land, but who today are being crushed by the powerful rod of the oppressors, need not despair if they understand that soon, very soon, there will not only be the reign of life, love and truth, but also that they will be hearing for the aggrieved, redress for the oppressed and judgment for the godless,” the Priest said.

The Man of God continued that the celebration of the resurrection challenged all those who suffer today to look into the future with hope in the Lord of miracles. He warned Christians against fear which, he said, murders hope everyday.
