EITI board chair Clare short gives Cameroon a pat on the back

The board chair of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Clare Short on a working visit to Cameroon was received in audience by Prime Minister Philemon Yang on behalf of the Head of State Paul Biya.

Mrs. Clare Short came to Cameroon as the country gains qualification into the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative compliance status.

During the audience with the PM, the Board Chair praised Cameroon for its efforts, stating that transparency in the management of oil, gas and mineral resources is synonymous to better accountability.

Cameroon's Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative compliance status has been celebrated at a time when government reaffirms its determination to transparently manage revenue from extractive industries.

In the presence of the visiting official as well as members of government, Finance Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey declared that the status makes Cameroon's business climate more attractive to foreign investors.

The country adhered into the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative eight years ago and gained compliance statue on 17th October 2013 during a board of Director’s meeting in Abidjan.

The initiative seeks to encourage countries with rich natural resources to manage these resources in a transparent manner so the populations rip full benefit.
