Ebolowa is the most expensive city in Cameroon - Report

Ebolowa, capital of the Southern Region leads the pack of the most expensive cities in Cameroon. Information is from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

The INS justify this state of affairs by rising food prices, and those of educational services by 3.0%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco 3.0%, and those of housing services up to 2.8%. But also the high demand of agricultural production by neighboring countries.


However, the general trend seems to be satisfactory, since the overall rate fell by 0.3 percentage points at 2.1% compared to 2.4% in 2012.


The top 10 cities where the cost of living is the most expensive in Cameroon:

1- Ebolowa : 3,1% 2 – Bamenda : 2,7% 3- Bafoussam : 2,6% 4– Yaoundé : 2,3% 5 – Maroua : 2,2% 6- Douala : 2,0% 7- Buea : 2,3% 8 – Bertoua : 1,3% 9- N’gaoundéré : 1,0% 10- Garoua : 0,6%


Inflation touches some very sensitive sectors of the economy, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.3%), clothing and footwear (3.0%), education (3.0 %), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.0%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (2.8%), furniture, household items and routine household maintenance (2.1%) etc...


In short, inflation affects more primary (3.3%) than high school (1.3%) and tertiary (1.7%).
