Eradication of organic pollutants: govt to benefit 70 million FCFA financing

The Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development, Pierre Hele, has intensified measures to enhance the ban on the production, use and storage of organic pollutants in the country.

During a seminar to elaborate a strategy to ensure the effective implementation of the ban, development partners pledged financial assistance worth 70 million CFA francs to help Cameroon successfully eradicate persistent organic pollutants.

At the opening of the seminar, Minister Hele Pierre stressed on the need for a more aggressive approach in the handling and management of pollutants, within the country.

He indicated that the move is in line with the Stockholm Convention on elimination of persistent organic pollutants which Cameroon has ratified.

Experts explained that the pollutants have devastating effects on the environment and on human health.
