It was recently disclosed that a circa FCFA10.5 billion will be invested in the modernization of infrastructures at the Douala International Terminal (DIT) in order to meet up with modern standards.

This revelation was made recently by Bolloré Africa Logistics Group (BAL).

This project will take place from 2014-2017. Since this project started early this year, it is believed that some 21 per cent work has been done and it has improved movement and traffic at the Douala seaport.

“Since it started, an improvement of 21 per cent of traffic justifies the gradual return of the largest ships in the port of Douala since the first quarter of 2014," said Tidiane Sall , Chairman of the Board of Directors .

Also, the volume of cargo processed at the beginning of the year witnessed a record high level that has never been witnessed since 2005.

Other areas like the simplification and computerization of customs clearance procedures are also involved in the plan of strengthening the competitiveness of the port of Douala.

During the installation of the new CEO of DIT, Jakob Sidenius , Chairman of the Board Hamadou Sali , recommended " rigor and openness " so that the relationship between DIT and other stakeholders using the Douala port will contribute to improving the business climate in Cameroon .
