Phase II of the Cameroon/CD2 Rural sector funds to enhance the competitiveness of family agro-pastoral farms (ACEFA) is on course with FCFA 60.3 billion to take the project to virtually all the regions.
Inspired by the revelation recently, farmers in the North West Region have committed to turn full circle and produce required results. The event in Bamenda was the empowerment of ACEFA staff in Donga Mantung Division.
The National Coordinator of ACEFA, Moumini Bouba encouraged family farmers to rise to expectations in improving livelihoods. He handed two vehicles and 34 motorcycles to enhance productivity in the division.
Moumini Bouba prescribed hard work to beat successes registered in Phase I of the project that ran from 2008-2012. He stressed that phase II of the project scheduled to stretch from 2012-2016 will take ACEFA activities to the doorsteps of virtually all family farm that qualify in Cameroon.
It is against this backdrop; that the Coordinator encouraged ACEFA Counselors to sensitize and train farmers. He stressed that only organizations and Common Initiative Groups that meet ACEFA standards will qualify for funding.
The partnership between the government and family farms will build ovens, warehouses, poultry houses, and more. The Regional Delegates of Agriculture and Rural Development, Livestock Fisheries and Animal Industries, Nutoto Godfrey and Atanga Heinendez urged ACEFA Counselors to judiciously use acquired vehicles and motorcycles for posterity. Speaking for counselors, Lawong Fonyuy Florence acknowledged that the offer of equipment will take the project forward and committed to be available for the service of family farms.
The ACEFA program develops family-run agro-pastoral farm enterprises through the improvement of their technical and economic management, scaling up of the quality of services provided by producer organizations to members, and the professionalization of farmers, livestock producers and fishermen. It is also produces wealth in rural areas in order to create jobs, maintain natural heritage and strengthen social cohesion.
