FCFA 68 Million Earmarked for SDF Convention Budget

The National Executive Committee, NEC, of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) that met on September 22 in Bamenda, has been looking for ways to cut down the FCFA 68 million budget for their upcoming elective convention in October this year. This is because 20 days to the convention day only FCFA 21 million has been raised pushing members to streamline their budgets.

The NEC meeting chaired by the party Chairman Ni John Fru Ndi saw the participation of all Shadow Cabinet ministers, SDF parliamentarians and other members. The main focus of the meeting was the convention in October. It emerged from the NEC meeting that over three thousand delegates are expected from within and out of Cameroon. So far, there has been no challenger for the post of the National Chair person as the incumbent Ni John Fri Ndi was unanimously elected as the North West candidate recently in Bamenda.

As to why the convention is coming six years after, instead of four years as inscribed in the party constitution, party big wigs say it is due to the last presidential election. As the party had to focus on the election and was obliged to push the convention to October 2012.

Speculations were high that the famous article 8:2 that sanctioned recalcitrant members might be revised as this far it was suspended. The SDF convention that will take place at the Bamenda Congress hall will surely be a crowd pulling event as it is coming barely a year after the last presidential election in Cameroon.
